Advanced Whitening: Frequently Asked Questions
Expected Results
Results vary based on your genetics, age, and lifestyle habits (like coffee or tobacco use). Most clients see an improvement of 4 to 8 shades in a single session. Our goal is to achieve your "maximum natural whiteness," which is typically the shade of the whites of your eyes.
How long will the results last?
Longevity depends largely on your staining habits. Typically, results last 6 months to a year. We recommend a touch-up session every 6 months and the use of our professional-grade minerals treatment to help seal the enamel and maintain the brightness.
Crowns, Veneers & Fillings
Whitening treatments are designed to lift stains from natural tooth enamel. While the solution will not change the original color of porcelain crowns or composite veneers, it can help remove surface stains that have accumulated on them, returning them to their original created shade.
Sensitivity & Comfort
At Lumine, we use a professional-grade, stabilized gel and advanced LED technology designed to minimize sensitivity. While most clients experience no discomfort, those with a history of sensitive teeth may feel a minor "tingle." We follow every session with a Minerals Enamel Booster to desensitize the teeth and replenish the enamel.
Is it safe for my enamel?
Yes. Our whitening process is non-invasive and does not damage the structure of the tooth. Our gel formulation is designed to be tough on stains but gentle on the enamel.
Pregnancy & breastfeeding
As a standard safety precaution, we do not recommend professional teeth whitening for clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
How long does the session take?
The full concierge appointment typically requires 60 minutes. This includes a brief consultation, professional setup, and three back-to-back 15-minute whitening cycles. For clients looking to achieve their maximum possible brightness in one sitting, an optional fourth 15-minute cycle may be added if the enamel allows, extending the total session time to approximately 75 to 90 minutes.
The Lumine Process
To comply with professional guidelines, you will be guided through the process. Lumine provides the high-end equipment and advanced-grade solution, your Lumine Technician will coach you through the self-application to ensure you feel comfortable and confident every step of the way.
What is the "White Diet"?
For the first 24 to 48 hours after your treatment, your tooth pores (tubules) are open and susceptible to staining. We recommend sticking to a "White Diet" (avoiding red wine, coffee, dark berries, and pasta sauce) to ensure your results lock in perfectly.
Event Scheduling
We recommend scheduling your whitening session 5 to 7 days before your event. This allows the teeth to fully rehydrate and the brightness to "settle" into its final, most natural-looking shade.
Who should avoid teeth whitening?
Whitening is not recommended for individuals with untreated cavities, gum disease, exposed roots, or those who are currently wearing braces. We always recommend being up-to-date on your routine dental cleanings before a whitening session.
